Voyager Logon and OptionsThe Voyager Integrated Library System (ILS) utilizes a server-client framework and the Catalog module must be installed on each client computer before use. Contact the Museum's Information Technology Department for an installation. You also must have an operator ID assigned by the Library before you can use the Catalog module. If you do not have, or have forgotten your operator ID and password, contact the Library Cataloger. To open the Voyager Catalog module, navigate to Start>Programs>Voyager>Catalog. Or, you can create a shortcut to the Catalog and place an icon on your desktop. When you open the module, you will be asked for your operator ID and password. Enter your assigned operator ID and password.
If you are authorized to catalog in more than one department, a pop-up box will appear asking you to select a cataloging location. If you are only authorized to catalog in one department, the software will skip this screen. Setting Options and Preferences One of the first steps you should do before you begin cataloging in the module is to set up your preferred Options and Preferences. These are client-based settings, so they must be set up on each computer that you use for the first time. The following set of screen shots show possible settings. On the menu located across the top of the screen, click on Options, then click on Preferences. There are seven tabs across the top. In the General tab, you will need to set important holding and call number settings. In the Holdings/Items default location, scroll down to the location where you will be doing the majority of your cataloging. If you are only authorized to catalog in one location, it will default to that location in the box. The next setting, the Call Number Hierachies, can be set to either Library of Congress, Other, or None. If you are cataloging in either AZSITE Records Office, Archaeological Repository or Archives the proper setting is Other. These two settings will automatically populate the information from the bibliographic record's MARC 099 field into the holding record's 852 MARC subfields and save typing this information in manually by the cataloger. View the screen below and set the other settings as indicated. Move to the next tabs and make all your selections before clicking on OK to save all your settings.
Click on the Validation tab and set the settings as indicated.
Click on the Work Flow tab and set the settings as indicated.
Click othe Item Defaults tab and set the settings as indicated.
On the Folders/Files tab, you will be selecting how the default bib, holding and authority record templates are retrieved. If you are using your own uniquely created templates you can change the address location to retrieve your desired templates. All templates are located at: c://Voyager/Catalog/Templates.To set the address, click on the ellipses and navigate to c://Voyager/Catalog/Templates folder. Open the Templates folder and highlight the desired template and click Open.
The entry for the Mapping tab will vary depending on the type of record to be imported. If you are not importing records into Voyager, this setting is not critical. The Expected Charater Set of Imported Records should be set to OCLC (non-Unicode) when importing records from OCLC and MARC21 UTF-8 when importing authority records from the Library of Congress.
Note: An error message will be displayed if the mapping is incorrectly set when importing records. If you receive this message, you will have to come to this tab and change the expected character setting.
On the Colors/Fonts tab, you can customize the colors and text fonts for bib, authority, holding and conversion records, or leave the defaults. You can also change the font type and size display in your records for easier viewing. Never set the background colors to white at the same time as the type font colors are set to white, for obvious reasons.
After all your selections are made, click on OK to save your settings. |
