Text of Letter from the Territorial Governor Regarding House Bill No. 42
Executive Department of Arizona
Office of the Governor
Phoenix, Ariz. March 17, 1893
To the Honorable, The House of Representatives:
I respectfully return House Bill No 42 entitled "An act to create a Territorial
Museum" with the recommendation that said bill be changed in regard to the
location of the museum, as it would seem better to have the institution connected
with the Territorial University instead of the Library. The room now used for
Library purposes has not sufficient capacity for its present purposes uses,
and the supply of books is constantly increasing. It would no doubt be well to
have the museum located at the Capitol if suitable room were avaible available
for it's purposes, and the Territorial finances would justify the proper equipment
and care thereof. The University is strong, financially, and has a botanist and
mineralogist connected with the institution who could direct the care of the museum.
I also recommend that the Board of Regents of the University be substituted
for the Governor Secretary and Attorney General in second section 2 of
the bill.
N.O. Murphy
