Letter from the Territorial Governor Regarding House Bill No. 42

Handwritten letter from the Governor

Letter of 17 March 1893 from Arizona Governor Nathan O. Murphy to the House of Representatives, recommending changes in House Bill No. 42 (written and introduced by George W. P. Hunt). The changes suggested are to place the the proposed territorial museum at the territorial university (now the University of Arizona) inTucson instead of at the territorial library and that it be under the care of the university board of regents rather than the governor and other executive branch officials. The changes were adopted and the bill passed the house with unanimous support; it was enacted on March 8 and signed by the governor on April 7, 1893. This bill created what is now the Arizona State Museum at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
