“Marian Nez lives in Crystal, New Mexico, on the western flank of the Chuska Mountains. Teec Nos Pos lies at the northern end of these mountains. Her rugs often incorporate typical Teec Nos Pos elements like eight-pointed stars, hooked motifs, stylized feathers, and multiple borders.” —Ann Hedlund
“From a distance, in the middle part it looks like an Asian woman with a helmet, like an “Anime” kind of character, and there are stars and shields that make me think of Michael’s video games. The border is very warrior like, on the defensive, like a castle.” —Sierra Ornelas
“Whoa, did you ever see the movie, Labyrinth? There is a guard in front of a huge door and this dog had the body of a shield; he had a head on top and a head below. One always told the truth and the other one lied. If you stand back, this rug looks like it has two faces with eyes and a red V-shaped mouth—one smiling up and one frowning down.” —Michael Ornelas
“She probably just put in a pattern and didn’t see the images until it was done. Just like with my weaving—people see eagles in my pattern, but I never meant to put them there.” —Barbara Ornelas
