“The Burntwater style is identified by vegetal-dyed colors, a central diamond or double diamond, and patterned borders. Here, Emily Malone combines Burntwater with an inset of ye’ii figures. Her yarns are a soft, smooth type that are milled by Brown's Sheep Company in Nebraska and marketed through many Navajo Nation stores.

“Emily Malone’s daughters, Larissa, LaVera and Laramie Blake, have become known for their own distinctive style of rug, with a black background and multicolor blocks of color in the foreground. They and their cousins who also weave are known as the ‘Spider Rock Girls.’” —Ann Hedlund
