“Male weavers are an exception to the rule among Navajos, but men have always taken part in weaving. When he is not weaving up a storm, Jason Harvey collects natural colored wools and spins a fine thread. A versatile weaver of many different designs, he challenges himself with each new project. He says that he purposely uses his initials with a backwards ‘J.’ ” —Ann Hedlund
“Jason strives to find new materials to work with. He asked me if he could buy wool from my family. We would sell him the raw stuff, but he wants us to spin it, which is hard because once you get it spun, you want to use it yourself. Jason wants to work with finer materials and I encourage him. He studies rugs, patterns, designs, and colors. Also, he really helps his mom and his aunt to improve their weaving.” —Barbara Ornelas
