Looking Back: Chief’s Blankets and Revivals
“The past provides powerful sources of inspiration for Navajo weavers. For some, continuous family connections link them through their grandparents and earlier relatives. Others must strengthen their roots through books, classes, and conversations with elders. Some woven designs have been carried down through the generations; others are revived from older patterns in museums and publications. The past is highly marketable, too, so weavers often seek older designs that appeal to buyers who cannot afford to buy antique blankets.” —Ann Hedlund
