Awatovi Black-on-Yellow  jar, circa AD 1325 to 1375. The designs on this jar, recalling Nampeyo’s famous "batwing" motifs, illustrate the use of isolated design elements which shows up around 1300, a harbinger of the later, more elaborate Sikyatki style. (ASM #21738)  Diameter 13.8 cm.

Awatovi Black-on-Yellow Polychrome jar, circa AD 1325 to 1375, profile and top views. The jar demonstrates the use of repeating geometric patterns on ancestral Pueblo (Anasazi) pottery, a style which extends back hundreds of years. The hatching and interlocking of motifs appears in Nampeyo’s works, but with a contrasting fluidity that had found favor in 15th century pottery on which her classic designs were based. (ASM #GP39127). Diameter 16.8 cm.
