They had fiestas like they have today [at Menlo Park school]. Each grade would perform their school plays.
At that age I really didn’t like [school]. I couldn’t speak English. We were in a special class, what they call 1-C, mostly Mexican kids. We were not exposed to English at all. When we went to school we had to start from scratch.

I have fond memories of my teachers at Menlo Park School. Getting into the programs, the arts and the plays, really helped me later on in life. I have a debt to the teachers. I wish I could thank them because they are not around anymore. The work they did, the support thy gave me, the help and dedication.

My dad said his best times were when Menlo Park school used to have talent shows and carnivals in the middle of school. They also had football and softball games against other schools. These were good times for my dad’s life.
