I grind the migusta bean flour

"I grind the migusta bean flour in my grinding stone (market)"

Juanita Ahil grinding mesquite beans

Mesquite beans, formely an important staple, were dried thoroughly, then crushed in bedrock mortars and winnowed or sifted to separate the crushed meal from uncrushed seeds. The ground meal has a sweetish taste and is said to be very nourishing. Photograph of Juanita Ahil of Ali Chuckson (Little Tucson), Tohono O'odham Reservation, Arizona, by Helga Teiwes, Sept. 1975.
