CLOTH DOLLS
Made by Mollie Santos, around 1960
of Hickiwan Village, Tohono O'odham Reservation
Gift of Dr. Bernard Fontana, 1960
(ASM #E-4212 a and b)

Museum Ethnologist Bernard Fontana purchased this pair of dolls from Goldie Richmond at Tracey's Trading Post in San Simon. Goldie sold a variety of Indian crafts as well as basketry. These dolls, dressed in festive wear, were made in a rolling and tying technique that required no stitching.

CROCHETED MAN-IN-THE-MAZE DOILY
Made by Goldie Richmond, date unknown
On loan to ASM, Private Collection

Goldie was inspired to render a Tohono O'odham "man-in-the-maze" design in a crocheted technique. This doily is yet another example of her exquisite handiwork and keen and inventive design sense.
