Spider in a Web

Photos by Jannelle Weakly

Description: Flat basket with a spider design in a web of split stitches. Made of white yucca, baregrass and Devils Claw.

About this Award: Awarded for high quality in craftsmanship in basket arts.

Jurors' Comments:
Shonto: I liked this piece because it's true to its title. The innovative weaving and integral design worked well together.
Ramson: A really creative piece. The spider is a common image in the Southwest that speaks to a lot of people in their own languages. The total piece came together very well with the lattice work that symbolized the web.
Jennifer: This is a very innovative melding of process and design.
