Southwest Indian Art Fair 2008

Volunteer at SWIAF!

February 23 & 24, 2008

This information is for the last Southwest Indian Art Fair. The next fair will be held February 21 & 22, 2009. Please check back in the weeks leading up to the fair for updated information.

We will do our best to accommodate requests, but please be flexible!  Some positions fill up faster than others, and due to last minute changes, we may need to assign you a different job.
Friday Positions
  Friday AM Position. Hang signs, number tables set up small pop-up tents. Involves light lifting and standing. All work is outside. 4 hr. shift.
  Friday AM Position. Assist artists delivering their work to the juried competition. Work inside and outside. Involves some walking, travel to the museum’s second floor, and interaction with Artists. 3.5–4 hr. shift.
Weekend Positions
  Weekend Position. Greet the artists as they arrive and help them set up efficiently, or, at the end of the day, help them pack and load their vehicles. Involves pushing a cart from drop off area to artists' spaces. 1.5–2 hr. shifts.
  Weekend Position. Assist the supervisor with the oversight of the admission area. Must be comfortable interacting with the public and enforcing policy. Requires standing much of the time and walking short distances. 4 hr shifts.
  Weekend Position. Hand-stamping, handing out programs, collecting tickets. Involves standing. 4 hr shifts.
  Weekend Position. Help us help others! Cover artists and volunteers on breaks. Involves mostly walking. Comfort in approaching artists to see if assistance is needed. 2.5–4 hr. shifts.
  Weekend Position. Interact with the public. Encourage people to buy tickets to our raffle! Must be comfortable approaching the public and handling money. 4 hr. shifts.
  Weekend Position. Monitor food area for congestion. Establish orderly traffic flow and line formation. Empty trash cans. Involves standing, walking, and some lifting. 4 hr. shifts.
  Weekend Position. Assist at the Drink Booth. Requires standing and some light lifting. Chairs available. Must be comfortable handling money. 4 hr. shifts.
  Saturday AM only. Meet the artists! Help us collect items for the raffle! Involves walking and filling out simple forms. Must be comfortable approaching the artists and asking for donations. 2.5 hr. shifts.
  Weekend Mornings only. Help get us going and keep us going. Staff the hospitality center (coffee, beverages, and continental breakfasts for the artists and staff). Involves standing and light lifting. 4 hr. shifts.
Performance/Demonstration Area Assistant
  Weekend Position. Comfortable working with people? Assist with everything related to the performance and demonstration area. Involves standing and walking short distances. 4 hr. shifts.
  Weekend Position. Help monitor the “Exit Only” areas. Can you be diligently attentive and read a book? This is the job for you! Must remain at gate, sitting or standing. 2–2.5 hr. shifts.
  Weekend Position. Interact with the public! Help us get visitor feedback! Involves standing and the ability to approach visitors to fill out survey. 3 hr. shifts.
  Weekend Position. Assist with customer service in the Museum Store. Involves standing and interaction with the public. 4 hr. shifts.
  Sunday PM only. Collect evaluations from Artists on Sunday afternoon. Involves walking short distances and standing. 3 hr. shift.
  Weekend Position. Assist the flute maker with teaching guests how to make a flute. Be comfortable working with visitors and completing the project. Involves sitting and standing. 3 hr. shifts.
  Sunday PM only.  Help take down tents, signs, fencing, etc. at the end of the Fair!  Involves lifting, walking, and standing.  2 hr. shift Sunday, after the fair 46 p.m.
