Hohokam stone palettes

STONE PALETTES

Culture: Hohokam
Dates: Santa Cruz-Sacaton phases, ca. AD 850-1150
Location: Snaketown, Gila River, AZ
Material: phyllite

Palettes were used for grinding pigments and were probably personal possessions of individuals. Some appear deliberately broken and disposed of in mortuary rites.
