ArchivesDocumentsLetter of 17 March 1893 from Arizona Governor Nathan O. Murphy to the House of Representatives, recommending that the Territorial Museum proposed by George W. P. Hunt during the 17th Legislative Assembly, in House Bill No. 42, be changed to place the Museum at the Territorial University instead of the Territorial Library, and that it be under the care of the University Board of Regents rather than Governor, Secretary, and Attorney General. The changes were adopted, the bill passed the house with unanimous support, it was enacted on 8 March, and signed by the Governor on 7 April. This bill created what is now the Arizona State Museum at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Reproduced from the original in the Arizona State Museum Archives. Read the text of the letter.
