What do you get when you combine eight teenagers, a scholarship program sponsored by Earthwatch Institute, and two weeks in the desert of Northern Arizona? The Student Challenge Awards Program 2005! Based in Winslow, Arizona, we worked primarily on a project entitled, "The Analysis of Structural Burning in an Ancient Hopi Village," headed by principal investigator E. Charles Adams and graduate student A.J. Vonarx. For this project, our goal was to build a replica pueblo according to the ancient standards of the ancestral Hopi, and then conduct several test burns on the roof to determine the different patterns associated with intentional versus accidental burning. Despite several setbacks, we got the project done, with spectacular results. This website serves as a digital brochure about the project. For information on any aspect of the project, or to find helpful links, click on the navigation bar to the left. Thanks for visting!
