Discover Arizona State Museum: A QR Code Museum Quest

Follow clues to explore the museum. Use your smartphone, iPod or tablet for this game. Starting in the museum's lobby, look for QR codes and scan them to reveal the clues. If you want, record your answers on the Museum Quest Answer Sheet available at the lobby desk. When you’re finished, come back to the lobby to claim your prize. Have fun!

Teachers: Before coming to the museum, please ask your students install a free QR code or barcode scanner app. Also please download and print the Answer Sheet (PDF*) for your students. Have them bring a notebook or clipboard to lean on and pencil for writing! To check answers, download the Answer Sheet with Answers. (PDF*)
Note: Not every student needs to have a smartphone. They enjoy it more working in pairs, or if necessary in small groups.

To get started, make sure you have a scanner app on your phone (see below). At the museum either turn on your WI-Fi setting and choose UAPublic. You may also use your cell service but sometimes the connection is not strong enough.

Here's the first clue, but you'll have to come to the museum to go on this quest!

Museum Quest Clue 1

What is a QR code and how do I get the scanner app to play this game?

QR codes are square barcodes. Download a free QR reader app onto your smartphone, iPod Touch, iPad or other tablet. When you scan a QR code it will go to a webpage or audio file—in this case containing clues for the Museum Quest.

Download a QR reader app for free! Go to the iTunes App store or Google Play and search for QR Reader. A few popular ones are:

  • I-nigma
  • Scanlife
  • Quickmark
  • Lynkee
  • Beetagg
  • Upcode
